The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village made a true impact by presenting a check for $1,000 to TLC2 (Teens Learning Character/Teens Leading through Choices,) the charitable beneficiary of the community’s recent Sundaes in The Neighborhoods home tour.

The funds will go to TLC2’s TRU-IMPACT (Teens Really Understanding the Importance of Making Positive, Active Choices Today) program, which promotes leadership and character development to school-age students through interactive programming, teaching and positive role-modeling.

“This money will assist us in helping at-risk teens lead more productive lives and reach their full potential,” said Georgia Park, executive director of TLC2. “We are so grateful to The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village for their generosity and for helping raise awareness of this important program.”

In addition to raising funds for charity, the event was also a marketing success. One of the four homes on tour – Providence Homes’ Hawthorne model – was sold during the event and several potential new residents have expressed serious interest in moving to the popular St. Johns County community.

The Sundaes in the Neighborhoods home tour took place every Sunday in September and featured home tours and complimentary ice cream sundaes provided by Murray Bros. Caddyshack restaurant. As the result of a contest sponsored by The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village, four sundaes created by area residents were featured on the tour, including the $1,000 grand-prize-winning sundae– a dark chocolate raspberry sundae – which is being served at Caddyshack throughout October with a portion of the proceeds benefiting TLC2.

“Sundaes in The Neighborhoods was one of our most successful and well-received promotions ever.

We sincerely thank the hundreds who came out and toured the homes and the dozens of individuals who participated in our sundaes contest,” said Sherry Davidson, president of Davidson Realty, Inc., marketers of The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village.

Sponsors for the event included The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village, Davidson Realty, WJXT Channel 4 and Murray Bros. Caddyshack.

Davidson Realty agent leading the charge in Cell Phones for Soldiers program
Erin Meehan donates percentage of commissions to program

Since teaming with the Cell Phones for Soldiers program late last year, Davidson Realty has collected hundreds of cell phones for the organization, which converts used cellular phones into prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. Davidson Realty broker-associate Erin Meehan, who heads up the collection efforts, also donates a percentage of her real estate commissions to the program.

“It is so hard for those troops serving our country overseas to be separated from their families. This wonderful program provides a means for these men and women to keep in touch with loved ones,” said Meehan. “I thank the Davidson Realty team and the community for helping to make our collection efforts a success.”

Meehan encourages area residents to continue participating in the program by donating used cell phones to the collection site at Davidson Realty, located at 100 E. Town Place, Suite 100 at World Golf Village in St. Augustine. “With the holidays coming up, now is a wonderful time to donate so our solders can contact friends and family. It is estimated that Americans will replace around 130 million cell phones this year and most of them are just tossed away,” said Meehan. “These phones are especially appreciated at this time of year and they can truly make a difference in the lives of our soldiers.”

The Cell Phones for Soldiers program was founded in 2004 by 13-year-old Brittany Bergquist of Massachusetts, along with her younger brother Robbie, with $21 of their own money. The program, a registered 501© 3 non-profit organization, has a goal of collecting 15,000 cell phones per month through a network of more than 3,000 collection sites throughout the country. The donated phones are sent to ReCellular, which pays the organization for each donated phone, equating to one-half hour of talk time for soldiers abroad.

TLC2 named charity for World Golf Village’s Sundaes in The Neighborhoods home tour
For each home toured, $1 will be donated to helping teenagers

TLC2 – Teens Learning Character/Teens Leading through Choices – has been selected as the charitable recipient for The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village’s upcoming Sundaes in The Neighborhoods home tour. The community will offer $1 to TLC2 for each home toured during the event (up to $1,000).

Scheduled for every Sunday in September from 12-4 p.m., the free Sundaes in The Neighborhoods event will feature tours of four homes and complimentary ice cream sundaes provided by Murray Bros. Caddyshack. The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village is sponsoring a contest to solicit ice cream sundae recipes from the public through the end of August. Four sundaes will be chosen and featured on the tour with the grand prize winner taking home $1,000 in cash.

One of the selected sundaes will be served at a different home each week during the September tour and the winning sundae will also be served throughout the month of October at Murray Bros. Caddyshack restaurant with a portion of the proceeds benefiting TLC2.

TLC2 promotes leadership and character development to school-age students through interactive programming, teaching and positive role-modeling. “I am delighted that TLC2 has been selected to benefit from this generous community outreach. Our nonprofit seeks to teach young teens how to make good choices in the ‘bad choice’ culture in which they are immersed,” said Georgia Park, the organization’s executive director.

According to Park, the organization takes an interactive teaching approach in middle-school classrooms and “at risk” nonprofits to teach students a leadership/character development curriculum called TRU-IMPACT (Teens Really Understanding the Importance of Making Positive, Active Choices Today.)

“Any monies received from this promotion will be used to expand our presence in more schools. In the past school year, we impacted over 1,500 teens in six schools/agencies in the Jacksonville community. We plan to significantly increase the numbers of teens reached in the current year,” added Park. “This event will help us accomplish this passion/vision.”

Sponsors for the event include The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village, Davidson Realty, WJXT Channel 4 and Murray Bros. Caddyshack. The following is a list of the homes on tour: The Atlantis by CornerStone Homes, 5208 Comfort Court in the GroveWood neighborhood; The Hawthorne by Providence Homes, 4910 Boat Landing Dr. in the GroveWood neighborhood; The Pebble Beach by Bateman & Martin Developments, Inc., 100 Laterra Links Circle, #201 in Laterra Links; and The Madeira by Stonecraft Fine Homes, 2645 Oakgrove Ave. in the Windmill Estates neighborhood.

Commercial and retail on the upswing at World Golf Village

Residential success driving need for commercial and retail services

The growing number of residents in The Neighborhoods of World Golf Village has created a demand for new services and the subsequent flurry of commercial and retail activity in and around the successful St. Johns County community. Earlier this year, a full-service CVS Pharmacy opened at the intersection of International Golf Parkway and SR 16. A Walgreen’s Pharmacy and a 54,000-square-foot Publix with 23,000-square-feet of additional retail space are currently under construction at that same intersection.

Vystar Financial recently announced that they will begin construction of a facility at the International Golf Parkway/SR 16 intersection as well.

“We are so excited about all of the new services for our residents. It has been wonderful having a pharmacy in our backyard,” said World Golf Village resident Sherry Davidson, president of Davidson Realty, Inc. and vice president of Davidson Development, Inc., developers of World Golf Village. “As our resident base continues to expand, we have more and more of a need for these services.”

There are currently 3,300 families living at World Golf Village, with an additional 96 new homes currently under construction. “This doesn’t include our neighboring communities, such as Murabella,” added Davidson. “World Golf Village has paved the way for numerous new communities and those residents also need these services.”

The much-anticipated, 800,000-square-foot Lion’s Gate Mall to be located on the southwest corner of I-95 and International Golf Parkway is expected to be under vertical construction later this year, with construction planned next year on the upscale 1.5-million-square-foot Esplanade at St. Johns mall, which will be patterned after the St. Johns Town Center. Shoppers are also looking forward to the recently announced 90,000-square-foot expansion of the St. Augustine Prime Outlets, which will include a test site for Saks Fifth Avenue.

“We will truly never have to leave home once those malls open. I personally can’t wait,” added Davidson. “The World Golf Village lifestyle is already about as good as it gets.”

Construction will also get underway later this year on the U.S. Veteran’s Hospital and Home to be located at the World Commerce Center across from World Golf Village. Fire Station #16 opened earlier this year and is fully operational and the following new business also recently opened in the Professional Park at World Golf Village: Village Travel & Cruses, Village Pediatrics of St. Augustine and Elite Smile.
